Absence Request Form
Request for Leave of Absence
The school will only authorise absence during term time in exceptional circumstances.
We will assess each request on an individual basis, considering both the impact missing school will have on the child’s education and any special circumstances of which you make us aware. The school will take into account:
- The overall attendance pattern of the pupil
- The timing of the absence
- The nature of the absence
- The pupil’s age and the stage in their education
The law requires attendance at school, and many parents are not aware it is not a parental right to take children out of school during term time. (Please be advised that you are at risk of being issued with a Penalty Notice for an unauthorised absence).
Every school day counts and any absence from school will result in lost learning and risk of underachievement.
There are 16 weeks of the year during which the school is closed (3 weeks more than LA schools).
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is illegal in the UK.
It is also an offence for UK nationals or permanent UK residents to carry out FGM abroad or to assist the carrying out of FGM abroad. The maximum penalty for an offence is 14 years’ imprisonment. No religious doctrine supports FGM.
FGM has serious long-term health consequences for the girls and woman affected.
All parents have a duty to protect their daughters from FGM and from others who may want to practice FGM on them. The school may request further conversations with families about this.
