Year 10 Interview & Careers Day

Montpelier High School’s Year 10 students took a bold step toward their futures during our recent Interview Day—an inspiring and action-packed event designed to help students explore life beyond the classroom.

Throughout the day, students participated in mock interviews with a diverse group of industry professionals, parent volunteers, and community partners. These one-on-one sessions gave students a valuable opportunity to practice interview techniques, receive constructive feedback and build confidence in presenting themselves professionally.

In addition to the interviews, students attended a series of career-focused talks and interactive workshops. These sessions covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Post-16 pathways, such as A-levels, apprenticeships, and vocational training
  • Emerging industries and career trends
  • Skills for the future workplace, including communication, teamwork, and adaptability
  • Insights from professionals across sectors like healthcare, defence, engineering and business

The day was designed to spark curiosity and encourage students to think critically about their aspirations, strengths, and the many routes available to them after Year 11.

Year 10 student Waad shared her insights into the day.

“I really enjoyed the one to one conversations with the interviewers. I don't really have much experience in formal interviews but it was nice to be able to share information about myself. They asked about my strengths and weaknesss and what my achievements are. It was really helpful to talk to someone who works in the field I’m interested in - I would like to become a doctor and help other people.

"We also heard from speakers from Careers at the Bar. This particularly interested me as they gave the perspective about what it was like to be a woman in court.

"I'm looking forward to taking part in work experience soon. I will be spending the week at my former primary school, where I hope to reconnect with some familiar faces like friends and teachers. I feel more confident about what I want to do next. I know the career day and interviews are already helping me think about sixth form options in Year 11 and I want to find out more about choices after age 18.”

We are incredibly grateful to all the volunteers who gave their time and expertise to support our students. Their involvement made the day not only informative but truly inspiring.

Enormous thanks to:

  • The interviewers - both from local employers, Society of Merchant Venturers and our parents.
  • Year 10 careers ambassadors who helped coordinate and facilitate the interview sessions
  • The speakers, who led inspiring talks from Renishaw, Careers at the Bar, Amey, NHS, British Army and AtkinsRéalis.

Career Day is just one of the many ways Montpelier High School is committed to preparing students for success in the wider world. this year they have already experienced in a number of careers-related events and students are participating in practical work placements for a week at the end of June.

We look forward to seeing how our Year 10s continue to grow and explore their futures with confidence and ambition.
