On Wednesday 11th June, 33 Montpelier High School students from Year 10 attended the annual triangular event sponsored by the Society of Merchant’s Venturers.
This year it was hosted by Merchants Academy who hosted both MHS and Collegiate in five events across the afternoon. A big thank you to Mr Reed at Merchants for hosting and organising the event, for bringing the sunshine and more importantly for feeding us before the presentation!
First up we had badminton. Our four girls played in both singles and doubles matches against both Merchants Academy and Collegiate. A valiant effort in a very warm indoor sports hall where Montpelier came third.
Next, we had 3v3 basketball. Again, our four girls battled gallantly in a very warm sports hall, beating Merchants but losing out to Collegiate to finish second.
Our netball team had the luxury of being outside in the sunshine. Winning their first game against a very tough Merchants team setting up a winner takes all against Collegiate. Our eight girls battled competitively and came out on top. Our first win.
Lastly, we had rounders. Our girls started off with a great win versus Merchants before once again setting up a winner takes all against Collegiate. A very competitive final, with both teams supporting each other very well. A one run win to Montpelier brought in our second win.
Once all the sports had been finished, we congregated on the field for the final event, tug of war!
The girls were up first. A tough competition with Merchants showing their strength and beating both Collegiate and MHS to come out on top. The mixed team winner was also Merchants with Collegiate winning the boy’s event. A final tug of war saw every student get involved showing great camaraderie across all three schools.
Montpelier High school students represented themselves well both on and off the field. They showed great competitiveness, but also great sportsmanship and manners.
Well done to all involved!
