Spanish Enrichment Club Dances into Colombian Culture with Cumbia Workshop
On Wednesday, the Montpelier High School Spanish Enrichment Club brought the spirit of Colombia to life through the vibrant rhythms of Cumbia. In a dynamic and engaging workshop, students immersed themselves in the traditional Colombian dance, learning not only the steps and movements but also the rich cultural history behind the music.
The workshop was a celebration of Latin American heritage, filled with high-energy music, expressive footwork and joyful collaboration. Guided by an experienced instructor, students explored the origins of Cumbia—a dance that blends Indigenous, African, and Spanish influences—and discovered how it has evolved into a symbol of Colombian identity.
“This was such a fun way to learn about another culture.” said one student. “It really brought the language and traditions to life.”
The event was part of the club’s ongoing mission to deepen students’ appreciation for Spanish-speaking cultures through hands-on experiences. From music and dance to food and conversation, the Spanish Enrichment Club continues to foster a love for languages and global understanding.
